MANILA, Philippines — Police said around 650,000 people gathered at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila hours before the “National Rally for Peace” of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) started Monday.

Earlier, INQUIRER.net captured the growing number of attendees going to Quirino Grandstand.

At 7:10 a.m., INC members with placards calling for unity continue to assemble along Bonifacio Drive and Katigbak Parkway.

Other INC members were also camping at Anda Circle, Port Area.

WATCH: Vehicles of Iglesia Ni Cristo members are already parked along España Blvd as early as 6:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, Anda Circle in Port Area is already packed with members who are set to attend the “National Rally for Peace” on Monday afternoon.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said the crowd swelled to about 650,000 around 8 a.m. Monday. The National Rally for Peace is scheduled to start at 4 p.m., Jan. 13, according to a host of the event.

An informal program was ongoing as of writing.

The INC said it would conduct the rally to show its support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s opposition to the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it expected a million people to attend the rally earlier.

Officials have in recent weeks unveiled a string of measures to reignite the world’s number-two economy, with an eye to achieving five percent annual growth.
